Summer Camp: The Swain County Recreation Department Summer Camp is an 8-week program designed for children ages 5 to 12, providing a safe, fun, and enriching environment throughout the summer. Camp runs Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., June 15 through August 7, offering families a full-day option during the summer months.
Campers will enjoy a variety of activities including sports, outdoor play, arts and crafts, games, team-building activities, and educational enrichment. Our trained and dedicated staff focus on creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes creativity, teamwork, physical activity, and personal growth. The Swain County Recreation Department Summer Camp is committed to providing a memorable summer experience where children can stay active, make new friends, and have fun all summer long.

Wrestling: The Ridge Runner Wrestling Program is a youth development program for boys and girls ages 4 through 14, focused on teaching the fundamentals of wrestling in a positive, structured, and supportive environment. The program emphasizes proper technique, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship while helping athletes build strength, confidence, coordination, and mental toughness.
Designed for both beginners and experienced wrestlers, Ridge Runner Wrestling provides age-appropriate instruction led by knowledgeable coaches who are committed to athlete safety and personal growth. Participants will learn core wrestling skills, conditioning, and match strategy while developing teamwork and perseverance. Whether your child is stepping onto the mat for the first time or looking to advance their skills, Ridge Runner Wrestling offers a strong foundation and a fun, competitive experience.

T-Ball: Swain County T-Ball is a fun and introductory baseball program for children ages 3 to 6, designed to teach the basic fundamentals of the game in a positive and encouraging environment. This program focuses on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while helping young players build confidence, coordination, and a love for the game.
The T-Ball season will take place during the month of May, with registration open from February 2 through March 27. Using age-appropriate instruction and equipment, participants will learn hitting off a tee, throwing, catching, running the bases, and understanding simple game rules. Emphasis is placed on fun, participation, and learning rather than competition. Swain County T-Ball is a great way for young athletes to stay active, make new friends, and begin their baseball journey.

Cheerleading: Our Youth Recreational Cheerleading Program is designed for boys and girls ages 4 to 13 who want to have fun, make friends, and learn the basics of cheerleading in a positive and supportive environment. This program emphasizes fun, teamwork, confidence-building, and school spirit, making it perfect for beginners and those looking for a low-pressure cheer experience.
No prior cheerleading experience is required. All skill instruction is age-appropriate and focuses on basic cheer motions, chants, jumps, beginner stunts, and sideline cheering.
Team Divisions
Participants are placed on teams based on age:
- Peewee: Ages 4–5
- Termites: Ages 6–7
- Mites: Ages 8–10
- Midgets: Ages 11–13
Each team will practice together and cheer at scheduled games throughout the season under the supervision of trained coaches.

- Registration Period: March 2 – April 24
- Registration Fee: $100.00
The registration fee helps support uniforms, equipment, and overall program costs.

The Swain County Recreation Department provides year-round programs for Adults and Youths and includes outdoor areas as well as an indoor recreation facility. Resources include basketball, soccer, football, tennis, free weights, playground, swimming, skateboarding and baseball. The indoor facility also has a meeting room for community use. We also work with Little League and Senior Games programs, and sponsor events such as the Santa Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt.
